From Chris -
In my opinion a straight forward and perhaps a basic lesson for business. Adapt and take opportunities; income more than expenditure; etc.
If my business was in an area served by the tram, I would be campaigning for a tram stop outside the front of my shop where footfall will be greater. As can be seen in Shandwick Place new business have opened up to take advantage of the changes. The West End business community knew the tram would be coming and made a successful case to rename the Shandwick Place stop to the name given West End - Princes Street.
It is an unfortunate fact of life that some businesses will never succeed. One piece of advice I was given years ago when starting up was to look at "Yellow Pages" business directory from two years back, then see how many of the same business in my line were still trading today.
The trams are coming, opportunities will be available...
