EDINBURGH TRAM INFO – Trams on Test 2013
Whilst all effort is made to correctly lay the track and all the line side equipment, it is necessary to test a tram along the route before operations take place.
Clearances are checked, then running takes place at a higher speed allowing driver awareness.
With approval from the Railway Inspectorate and other relevant organisations, passengers can then use the system.
Public announcement made on 2nd May 2014 with the unveiling of an all over advert on Tram No 275, that the date for the first fare passanger journey will be the 31st May 2014.

The testing of the line between Haymarket and York Place took place on the evening of 4th and morning of 5th December 2013.
Edinburgh experienced 90+ mph gusts of wind, heavy rain and flooding. It was a night for the real hardy enthusiasts. A night to cherish and remember.

8th October 2013 - The first time trams ran between Gogar and Edinburgh Park on a test run.
A number of photographers and interested members of the public gathered at Haymarket at 11.00 on 4th December 2013 to see the first tram off towards Princes Street.
The first tram No 264 to Princes Street ran over the rails at 11.45 on 4th December before continuing to York Place in the early hours of 5th December 2013.
